There is something about water that attracts us.
The beauty of large bodies of still water, the sound of rushing water in a creek or brook, or the mesmerizing sight of the ocean’s waves as they run to the shore cause most of us to stop, gaze, listen and ponder.
Water is fundamental to life on the planet. The amount of water in the human body ranges from 50-75%. The average adult human body is 50-65% water. Without water in our natural bodies, we could only live a few days. How interesting that Jesus speaks of living water as being the solution for man’s quest for eternal life.
“Jesus answered and said unto her, If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that says to you, Give me to drink; you would have asked of him, and he would have given you living water.” —John 4:10
Our spirit man needs the water of life. Jesus is that “living water.” Just as our physical bodies cannot live for long without natural water, our spirits cannot prosper without partaking of Jesus. Jesus is the only thing that can quench the thirst of the spirit. Nothing else can satisfy. Our own works leave us frustrated and weary. Looking to others for life and meaning never satisfies. Only Jesus fills us with peace, joy, faith, love and life.
“But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” —John 4:14
All men can come to this Fountain of Life. There is no charge.
“And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that hears say, Come. And let him that is thirsty come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” —Revelation 22:17
The incredible thing is that the same “living water” that has given us life can also flow from us to others as we share the love of God. We have “water” to share with the world!
“He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” —John 7:38
