CHARIS MINUTES
Watch the video to hear Rick’s full answer on How Do I Have Grace For Difficult Situations With Family
In this Charis Minute, Rick puts a spotlight on the significance of grace in the teachings of Paul, who begins 13 of his letters with the phrase “Grace to you.” This repetition underscores the importance of understanding that grace is a constant and abundant gift from God, available to believers. This grace empowers believers to navigate challenges, including difficult family situations, by providing wisdom and the ability to set boundaries. Keep reading to discover how you can have grace for difficult situations with family.
What Paul says about grace for difficult situations
It’s very important to note that Paul begins 13 of his letters, to the church with the words, “Grace to you”. Why would he say it 13 times? Because he wants to get through to us that grace is already given, it’s flowing and it’s for you. Anything repeated in the Word of God is for emphasis. Grace to you is a picture of an ever-flowing river that is from God to your born-again spirit by the Holy Spirit. Why is that? How could that be?
First Corinthians 6:17 says,
But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
So your spirit and the Holy Spirit were joined at the new birth. You just got to know about it and tap into it.
An example of how God’s grace flows to you during difficult situations
Let me give you an example. In your house right now, you have the water company already hooked up the main water source to your house. So you have water that is constantly flowing to your house. All you need to do is access it. Well, how do you access it? You turn the faucet. Just turn the faucet and you’re going to have the water. This is exactly the same with Grace. it is already flowing to you and is flowing from the Father, flowing from Jesus through the Holy Spirit into your spirit. All you have to do is turn the faucet of faith, and you’ll experience it.
Do we pray for grace for difficult situations?
So many times we’re praying, ‘Oh God, give me strength, give me power, give me healing, give me prosperity…’ hoping that He will deliver it to you. The truth is it’s already been delivered. Paul does not pray for grace when he says, ‘grace to you’, he doesn’t pray for grace to be given to those he was writing to. He just says “Grace to you”. He makes a proclamation, “Grace to you”. I want you to see something that this grace of God is seen as strength and power. Look at Second Corinthians 12, verse nine,
And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
God’s response here to Paul is for him to live his life from this grace. “My grace… for My strength.” And then Paul goes on, “the power of Christ may rest upon me.” So the grace of God horizontally is His strength and His power flowing to you.
How do we have grace in difficult family situations?
Well, the truth is we have it! Sometimes someone in your family can punch your buttons and that’s when you’re really going to have to lean into God’s grace. You’re going to have to pray for wisdom. That you know what boundaries you have and how much time you spend with them. If you’re living in a marriage situation, that’s why it’s so important who you marry because you’re going to be living with them. God has grace for every moment. He has wisdom for every moment.
We don’t have a formula here, but God has grace. We got to realise that we don’t try to pray for grace or to feel grace. Realise you have grace. Yes, you have it flowing to you right now. Release it with your word. Say, “I have that now. I thank You for that.”
Whatever God prompts you to do, do it. He gives you the ability to do what He prompts you to do. So the grace of God is always flowing from the Father, from the Lord Jesus Christ through the Spirit to our born-again spirit, and it’s a constant flow.
