How Do You get Heart Belief?

Watch the video to hear Barry’s full answer on how do you get heart belief

There is a difference between what we believe mentally and spiritually. You need to understand this because many people have a correct mental belief system but it doesn’t translate into true faith. Faith is of the heart, and true faith comes by hearing the Word of God. True heart belief comes when the Word of God has been heard and quickened to you by the Holy Spirit. You will know you’ve received heart belief—you won’t be the one asking questions, you’ll be the one with the answers.

How do you get heart belief and what is heart belief?

This is something I teach quite a bit at Charis and there is a difference between what we believe mentally and what we believe spiritually. Faith is a spirit. It’s called the spirit of faith in one place. We need to understand the difference because a lot of us have a right mental belief system. In other words, we have a good doctrine, we have a belief system that we adhere to and that is good. There’s nothing wrong with that but that doesn’t always translate into true faith.

Scriptural basis for heart belief

Faith is of the heart. It says in Romans 10:10,

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

One believes with the heart. One believes not with the brain, not with the head. Now you can have a right belief system, and that’s good but your true faith is going to come from your heart. That which has reached you spiritually, that which has been mental, perhaps, but becomes spiritual. It becomes alive, it becomes activated. You’ll know when it happens. When there’s a new energy, when there’s faith and faith comes by hearing.

Belief, the true heart faith, comes when we hear the Word of God in our spirit, when it’s quickened to us. You will know, you won’t have to be asking questions. You’ll know what to say, what to do. It will be there because you’ve been connected with the Source.

There’s a good verse in Hebrews 10:22,

let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

So there we have heart and faith linked. There we have two aspects of having a heart of faith or true belief in your heart.

How the conscience impacts how you get heart belief

People that feel guilty, unworthy or condemned are going to have a hard time believing from the heart. Your conscience needs to be cleansed. Your conscience needs to accept the righteousness of Jesus by the cross and by His resurrection. We’ve got to believe that we’ve been made a new creation. As long as your conscience is bothering you and you feel guilty or unworthy, you’re going to struggle in the area of faith.

So how do you get heart belief with a troubled conscience?

The Scripture says it involves having your heart sprinkled from an evil conscience and your body washed with pure water. Well, that’s not talking about taking a bath. That’s talking about the washing of water with the Word.

Ephesians 5:26 says,

that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,

Being in the Word constantly is going to do so much for your capacity to believe from the heart. The more time you spend in the word, the more time you spend reading the words of Jesus, the more time you spend understanding the nature of God, the goodness of God, the promises of God. The more time you give to this, the more you’re building your capacity and your sensitivity to the spirit of God, to hear Him.

You know you’ve gained heart belief when you’ve heard His Word and your heart comes alive and all of a sudden you have a new dynamic energy to speak certain things, to declare certain things. That’s when it happens.

So how do you get belief in your heart?

Get your conscience clear and wash yourself with the Word all the time. Be in the Word all the time, in the good things of God. The more you do this, the more you will be sensitive. When the Spirit quickens you, you’ll know it, It’ll put you in a different level of faith-walk.
