What we feed on is the fuel of our lives.
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
John 6:63
Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart.
Jeremiah 15:16a, New King James Version
Which “food” is more important to you?
Your answer will reveal a lot about your present and your future. Those who focus on food talk about food, think about food, crave food, and live their lives around food.
Those who feed on information fill their minds with all of the latest news on whatever subject interests them; they struggle when separated from the latest information because it’s what satisfies them.
Those who feed the soul struggle if they aren’t happy emotionally and in their relationships.
While all of these areas comprise the reality of our lives, they should not be the source of our lives. We are spiritual beings, created to live by and feed on the Word of God. Jesus said,
Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God
Matt. 4:4, NKJV
In other words, although we must feed our bodies and relate to our world and those around us, those areas cannot be the source of our lives. Only His words can satisfy and give us the strength and wisdom to live above the corruption in the world.
So, what are you feeding on? If your focus and passion aren’t God’s Word, you will never be satisfied.
Those other areas will begin to dominate your life and leave you unfulfilled and stressed. A spirit that is nourished by God’s words will produce life and peace (Rom. 8:6).
